The semantic web services research group at the school of Computing and Informatics in Nottingham Trent University has organized a workshop entitled: “Challenges and Promise of Semantic Web services” on Wednesday, 6th of September 2006.

The workshop's objective was to facilitate the presentation and exchange of research findings in the fields of the Semantic web and Web intelligence as well as discussing the promise of their practical implementation. There were a number of invited speakers on key topics, followed by sub-workshops looking into the success stories of semantic web technologies and implementation problems of web services composition (orchestration) techniques.Hiroshi Sunaga from NTT-Japan gave a presentation on "Ubiquitous Service Composition Considering Context-Awareness" in the first discussion group.

The output of the sub-workshops was presented to other participants in the following session. The day finished by discussing the possibility of organising a formally sponsored, annual UK workshop in the field of Semantic Web services/Web intelligence.

One of the keynote speakers, Mr Antony Reynolds from Oracle has written a blog summering his impression about the workshop. [Antony's Blog]
